Nacional legend Ruben Sosa has claimed Edinson Cavani wants a move to the Uruguayan club.
With the striker's contract at Manchester United coming to an end, there has been plenty of speculation over his future.
United are understood to have been frustrated by the player's recent injury problems, meaning there is no guarantee they will take up their option of a year's extension to his current deal.
Meanwhile, Cavani's father has claimed his son wants to leave United this summer and return to South America due to having not settled in England.
He has been linked with a potential move to Boca Juniors, with former United defender Marcos Rojo claiming he had reached out to Cavani over a potential move to the Argentine side.
Yet Sosa has now claimed he has spoken to Cavani over a return to his native Uruguay.
Yet he quickly caught the eye and moved to Italian side Palermo in 2007 and he has spent the rest of his career in Europe.
That has not prevented speculation that Cavani may one day return to Uruguay, with the striker once revealing he grew up as a fan of Nacional due to his father and brother supporting rivals Penarol.
He said: "My father and brother were from Penarol so I wanted to be from Nacional because in the derby we couldn't be from the same team."
