Manchester United could lose Paul Pogba in this summer's transfer window.

Manchester United value Paul Pogba at just £55million ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports. The France international continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with both Juventus and Real Madrid amongst his admirers. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the midfielder to stay - but members of the Red Devils board have other ideas.

Manchester United have seen Pogba sparkle since the beginning of 2021.

He experienced a problematic start to the season, with injury and coronavirus preventing him from playing his best football.

But Pogba has improved since the turn of the year, with the 2018 World Cup winner enjoying a new lease of life on the left wing.

However, the problem for United is the 28-year-old’s contract situation.

Pogba has just a year left on his current deal at Old Trafford and will be entitled to leave the club for nothing at the end of next season.

That means that, if United are to secure a fee for the 2018 World Cup winner, they’ll need to cash in this summer.

And the Mirror claim the Red Devils have put a price tag of £55m on their prized asset.

That’s still a significant sum for the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, with both clubs finances hit hard by the coronavirus crisis.

But it’s significantly less than the £89m they spent on the midfielder back in the summer transfer window of 2016, when Jose Mourinho ruled the roost.

Solskjaer, for his part, is said to be in conflict with the board.

The Norwegian previously coached Pogba at youth level and has helped the midfielder rediscover his swagger, refusing to engage the player’s agent Mino Raiola in a war of words.

But with the midfielder wanting a weekly wage of £400,000-a-week to extend his stay with the club, there are members of the board who are against tying him down.

Should Pogba leave United, there are several potential replacements out there.

Jack Grealish is one, with the England international shining for Aston Villa this term - scoring six goals and clocking up 10 assists from 23 Premier League matches.

United wanted to sign Grealish a year ago, with Solskjaer making it clear to Ed Woodward he considered the 25-year-old to be a priority target.

However, Aston Villa’s decision to demand £75m for their captain ultimately saw a deal fall through.

And United ended up swooping for Donny van de Beek instead, with the Netherlands international touching down from Ajax in a £40m deal.

Another name in the frame is West Ham’s Declan Rice.

He’s enjoyed a fine season over at the London Stadium, helping the Hammers challenge for a place in next season’s Champions League.

But with West Ham likely to demand £100m to part ways with their midfield general, United could find themselves having to look elsewhere.

Speaking earlier this month, former Chelsea star Marcel Desailly had his say on Pogba’s future.

And he expressed a belief he should leave the Red Devils behind.

“No, not yet, not yet, but not especially because he’s not committed,” he said when asked if the United star had fulfilled his potential.

“Probably because the elements around him are not fitting with his quality, his state of mind.”

He then added: “He needs a good city. He needs a good team who play for him. He needs a coach who understands him.

“[Didier] Deschamps readjusted Pogba during the World Cup. He changed his system to 4-2-3-1 for Pogba.

“Out of four elements to make Pogba the best… if only two of the elements are there it’s not enough for him to express himself.

“There is two out of four [at Manchester United] so probably he has to go somewhere else to gain an extra one to potentially be able to show that consistency and that talent that he has and shine in the football world.”
