Manchester United are in the market for a striker this summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be backed by the club's owners.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told by the club's owners that they will make a "big bid" for a "prominent striker" in the upcoming transfer window, according to reports. Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland and Tottenham talisman are United's top two targets up front.

United are in the market for a striker due to the uncertainty over the future of Edinson Cavani.

Cavani is out of contract in the summer and could leave after just one year at the club.

However, even if the Uruguayan does stay, Solskjaer may not want to rely on a 34-year-old to be his main centre-forward option.

United protested in their thousands against the club's owners, the Glazer family, last weekend which led to the postponement of the Premier League match against Liverpool.

And Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window podcast says the Americans have responded by promising Solskjaer a large offer for a striker will be made.

"They've got a manager at the moment who they're backing, who wants recruitments at centre-forward, who would like to bring Erling Haaland to the club," Castles said.

"I understand that he's been told there will be a bid for, a big bid made, for a prominent striker this summer."

United's executive co-chairman Joel Glazer has broken his silence following last week's protests, where fans entered Old Trafford unlawfully.

He says investment in the team will continue, with finances also made available to improve the facilities both at Old Trafford and the club's Carrington training ground.

“We have supported sustained investment in the team over many years, and that will continue this summer,” Glazer said in an open letter to supporters.

“We recognise that we will need to significantly increase investment in Old Trafford and our training complex to ensure that the club’s facilities remain among the best in Europe.

"As part of this, we will consult with fans on investments related to the stadium and the matchday experience."

United have not won the Premier League since 2013 and Glazer says the owners are committed to bringing glory back to the club.

He added: "I want to reassure you that my family and I care deeply about Manchester United and feel a profound sense of responsibility to protect and enhance its strength for the long-term, while respecting its values and traditions.

"Our top priority is, and will always be, competing for the most important trophies, playing entertaining football with a team comprised of top-quality recruits and some of the world’s best homegrown talent.

"Under Ole, we feel we are absolutely on the right track."
